TITLE:   Paraprofessional / Teacher Assistant

           

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Provides support to teacher/staff as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Holds high school diploma.
  2. Successful experience as a teaching assistant or aide.
  3. Must have Paraprofessional Certificate and minimum of 60 hours or more of college hours.

 

REPORTS TO:  Teacher or Principal’s designee

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the classroom teacher in instructing assigned classes according to state standards and the school’s planned program of study to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  2. Assists the classroom teacher in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  3. Assists the classroom teacher in preparation for classes assigned.
  4. Assists the classroom teacher in guiding the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing and communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  5. Assists the classroom teacher in employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  6. Assists the classroom teacher in assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  7. Assists the classroom teacher in identifying the learning problems of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school and district specialists as required.
  8. Assists the classroom teacher in protecting students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  9. Assists the teacher in maintaining accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative guidelines.
  10. Attends staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
  11. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by collaborating with staff members as needed.
  12. Assists the classroom teacher by implementing the school discipline plan and District Code of Ethics and other school/district policies.
  13. Consistently reports to work and duty stations on time.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the principal or other members of the administrative team.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  185-Day Contract

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the school Board Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
