JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE: School Psychologist

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

1. Assists schools with school improvement when requested by the Principal and as approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
2. Provides evaluation of student needs through appropriate evaluation measures/techniques.

3. Provides in-service and consultation services to schools, parents, students, and community groups when requested by the Principal and as approved by the Director of Exceptional Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s Degree, Educational Specialist, or higher, in School Psychology preferred.

2. Valid Certification by South Carolina Department of Education in School Psychology.


REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Education

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides evaluation of students through interviews, observations, consultations, and normed and criterion-referenced instruments as well as personality evaluations in conformance with department format and procedures.

 

2. Confers with appropriate persons regarding student needs and recommend measures that may realistically satisfy these needs, and to attend necessary staffing.

 

3. Prepares formal written reports on cases referred for evaluation/assistance in compliance with departmental procedures.

 

4. Assists the Principals at an informal hearing in the school when there is an impasse concerning placement in exceptional child programs.

 

5. Establishes and maintain contact with other community resources to which children may be referred for treatment and/or further evaluation.

 

6. Assists schools with school improvement activities as a team member, consultant, implementation person, and/or evaluator as requested by the Principal and as approved by the Director or designee.

 

7. Participates as a member of student study teams as needed, and as approved by the Director or designee.

 

8. Consults with the Director or designee on cases with special circumstances.

 

9. Manages all materials and equipment required for successful completion of the School Psychologist’s tasks and job performance.

 

10. Participates in department’s staff development activities as directed by the Director or designee.

 

11. Provides in-service when requested, and as approved by the Director or designee.

 

12. Provides professional leadership to personnel designated to implement positive behavioral support plans.

13. Assists in the development of SAFE schools policies to prevent school violence and increase safety of students, teachers, and other faculty as approved by the Director or designee.

 
14. Assists student study teams as needed in completing Functional Behavioral Assessments and developing Positive Behavior Support Plans.

 

15. Performs other duties/tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

 

16. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: PRN

 

EVALUATION:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the School Board Policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certified personnel.
